Melody Reyes is on her first public relations assignment overseas. She’s living life the only way she knows how, with one foot in the Kingdom and the other in the world. One divinely inspired encounter knocks her flat to the ground, literally. Melody finds herself swept off her feet by a hunky, Asian guy who is her opposite in nearly every way.
She’s a quirky girl from the Caribbean in the big city for the first time. He’s a smooth, no-nonsense businessman helplessly drawn to her sincerity and weirdness. She blurts exactly what she’s thinking and he keeps his cards close to the chest. He’s close to perfect but not quite. Can this lively Belizean beauty tame the Jerkface?

So..I get what this genre of books is supposed to be about. It's definitely a "clean" style for the romance themed books. I try not to be judgmental about that, but usually that isn't my cup of tea. My favorites are usually more realistic (not necessarily raunchy), but I have read several books by this author and this one just didn't really hit the ball out of the park for me. It was similar to her other books in which the lead female character's POV is front and center, but I find that I am not really a fan of that style of writing for this genre. All of the main female characters (this one especially) seem naive and quirky which gets pretty old. Being a virgin at 20 does not always translate to naive and quirky. It was written well, but the religious themes were a bit oppressive and honestly I grew up in the church as well so I get it. I just don't think I can continue with these books. It's all starting to read the same.Product details

Taming Mr Jerkface The Taming Series Book 1 edition by Nia Arthurs Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
I really think that the author has a talent for writing. Melody was downright hilarious at times and there were definitely moments that I laughed out loud at her thoughts and antics. Overall Melody and Spencer were a likeable couple. Despite aforementioned being the case, I did not like how Melody basically ignored her bible trained conscience in the end when it came to her relationship with Spencer. She didn't stick to her resolve as far as being in a relationship with a "non Christian". Although the author makes reference to Spencer "being open" and seeking, in the end I would have liked to see Spencer definitively make his own decision to have Christian faith and THEN come back to Melody. Given all of misgivings Melody had about their relationship, which were in fact correct, it would have been nice to see her not compromise in the end, show true love, unselfishness and adherence to her standards by giving Spencer the opportunity to build up faith independent of her, and then have the author bring them back together. Unfortunately it felt like the HEA, although a desired end for the couple, happened out of order from the convictions that Melody claimed to have.
Excellent read
The storyline is entertaining, with moral and family values. I am a Belizean and this is the BEST book I have read by a Belizean.Well done. I
Nia ability to put a great story together is amazing . This book is romantic and funny .Nia paints a clear picture of the people in this book ,easy to follow along .
This book was soooo good. I will definitely look for more from this author. It was funny and sweet the heroine was well developed she had strong conviction without being annoying or self righteous. I would have loved a bit more about the hero but he was also well developed. I would definitely recommend this book. Well done. P. S. I loved that the author included some patois and showed her roots in this book.
Finding a really good IR novel is getting to be so rare these days. Well this is one of those rare finds! I loved reading this story from Melody's perspective...her quips were just too precious! But I especially loved the way the story was not rushed...this romance was allowed to grow and mature..and just seep its way into my heart. This goes on my keeper shelf for sure!
I just need a second.... ok... So this book is great. I'm definitely going to read every single book by this author. I loved how she mixed in social justice, and spirituality. There was some really poignant wisdom laced into the story that I always love. Like I'm getting life lessons, and a great story. I'm not one for a clean romance novel personally, but I'm more interested in the emotional connection between characters anyways, and there were some real swoon worthy moments. And it was kind of refreshing that there was no graphic sexual content, because sometimes these authors be doing the most with the bedroom scenes and it takes away from the love connection for me a bit. But I digress, this was well written and pretty freaking hilarious. The authors use of imagery really connected with me as well, and I felt like I was right there at some moments. Its also so nice to have a black female lead character that I can relate to as a quirky black woman myself. Just really really good, please read it.
